A&S Landscaping is a successful minority-owned small business and an active supporter and participant in SAHA’s Section 3 Program. A SAHA vendor for 13 years, A&S provides landscape services for more than 10 of SAHA’s communities, as well as the Central Office.
To recruit potential employees throughout SAHA’s communities, A&S actively contacts SAHA leasing agents directly. Currently, 9 of their 15 employees were trained under Section 3. Of these, some have moved from public housing and two are in the process of purchasing their own home.
But A&S Landscaping is more than just a champion of job training to promote self-sufficiency. Their volunteer efforts are an example for all of us to emulate.

Owner Sam Cardenas and his Harley Davidson motorcycle club has been involved with the Elf Louise project for the past two years. In 2004, they distributed toys to children at the Mirasol Homes and Cassiano Homes communities, and, this past Christmas, they adopted a family of six whose mother was placed in hospice care due to cancer. A&S is also an annual participant in SAHA’s Scholarship banquet, and they hope to help SAHA’s low-income seniors next year through additional fundraising activities.
