SAHA Foundation Fundraiser Date Approaches - Save the Date!

Television news anchor Randy Beamer, WOAI-TV-4, is slated as master of ceremonies for the 2006 SAHA Foundation (SAHAF) "Rising Star" scholarship awards banquet, July 18, 2006, at the Crowne Plaza, 111 E. Pecan St. Tickets are $150 for individuals, and $1,500 for a table of ten. The price includes meals, program and a tax-deductible donation to the foundation. This year’s banquet will start with a silent auction at 6 p.m., and dinner at 7 p.m.

The SAHA Foundation was formed for the purpose of providing incentives for low-income youth, in grades K-12, to stay in school and to ultimately attend college.

Each year, at its annual Rising Stars banquet, SAHAF presents graduating seniors who participate in one of SAHA’s assisted housing programs with $1,500 college scholarships, which are renewable for up to five years.

Since the first scholarship banquet in 2000, SAHAF has awarded $252,000 to 168 students.  This year, 25 deserving students will receive college scholarships.

At the event, SAHAF also honors a former assisted-housing resident who has made a positive impact in the community.  We are pleased to recognize The Hon. Carlos Uresti as this year’s “Rising Star” recipient.
