Section 8/Private Sector
Family's ability to seek decent, safe and sanitary housing is the goal of the Section 8 Program. SAHA, in 1975, became part of a program where families are encouraged to seek housing outside areas concentrated with low-income housing.

Housing needs have created opportunities for solutions that are different from the norm. Rather than concentrate low-income families in low-income housing developments, Section 8 assistance has enabled families to seek housing outside the usual areas of housing.100% occupancy, locally, has proven the success of the "tenant-based" Section 8 Existing Certificate and Housing voucher program.

The Office of Inspections
To attain housing is the American dream. The goal of Housing Quality Standards is to provide decent, safe and sanitary conditions in these homes. This goal is met by conducting inspections on a minimum of 100% of housing units.
Besides inspections SAHA conducts meetings on a quarterly basis, where property owners/managers and Real Estate organizations are encouraged to communicate where improvements are needed.

Housing Assistance Services - Special Needs
The Section 8 HAP division is issued special allocations to be used only in support of specific services for persons with special needs. These programs are designed to supplement the rental payments of very low-income families and individuals, thereby allowing them to obtain private sector units which are reasonably-priced, standard-housing that would not be affordable without such a supplement. Program include:
Veterans Administrations Supportive Housing-VASH
Individuals who meet the Veterans Administration Supportive Housing Program (VASH) criteria are subsequently referred to us for rental assistance.
Family Unification Program-FUP
The Office of Child protective Services has been referring clients determined eligible for rental assistance since 1996.
Shelter Plus Care-SPC
This program is for clients referred from the Center for Health Care Services and the Metropolitan Health District.
Single Room Occupancy-SRO
These clients are referred to SAHA by the City of San Antonio.
