Each year, more than one million U.S. workers are hurt on the job, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. On average, employees with work-related injuries are out of work for about seven days, and most of the injuries happen during the first four hours of work.
SAHA’s goal is to ensure all employees have a safe working environment, said Veronica Guevera, Risk Manager. The agency is placing heavy emphasis on proper reporting of all work injury incidents so proper safeguards against future problems can be established.
When an on-the-job injury occurs, follow these steps:
1. Report any accident immediately. Contact your supervisor or any member of management. If it’s an emergency, ask someone to take you to the nearest emergency room.
2. Supervisors must document all incidents within 24 hours of the event. Forward the documentation to the Risk Department.
3. Supervisors should accompany employees when seeking medical attention. Concentra is SAHA’s medical provider.
4. Supervisors ensure employees complete accident documentation.
5. Supervisors conduct and complete documentation of investigation into the incident.
6. All medical documentation goes to the Risk Department.
